The air around Pendle Forest in the 1600's must have been thick with a despair heavier than the Moorland mist. It was a time when poverty and ancient fears twisted into lethal accusations. Poor women, mostly beggars and healers were dragged from their meager cottages to the grim stone halls of Lancaster. Their earthly lives taken away out on Gallows Hill. All the more chilling was the Witch Child chilling involvement in the execution of her family members including her own mother. The murders are now just a melancholy echo of the cold cruelty of superstition and law. A haunting reminder of the fragility of truth when mass hysteria grips the heart of a village.
